University Lecturers Complete Transition Training
As Federal University of Education, Pankshin transitioned from College of Education status, T_CEIPEC responded to critical institutional capacity gaps by organizing a comprehensive four-day workshop themed “Transition from College of Education to University Lecturer: Expectations and Responsibilities for a Top-Tier University.” This timely intervention addressed challenges in research competencies, publication requirements, and understanding of university academic standards among approximately 430 lecturers.

The training, held at the University Auditorium, was facilitated by experienced resource persons including Prof. Ishaya Longdet, Prof. Danjuma Dajab, and other distinguished academics with proven track records in university-level scholarship. Sessions covered understanding university academic culture and expectations, research methodologies for educational and disciplinary research, strategies for publishing in reputable peer-reviewed journals, grant writing and securing research funding, effective supervision of graduate students, quality assurance in university teaching and assessment, academic leadership and service to the university community, and networking for collaborative research and international partnerships.

Subject-specific training sessions allowed lecturers from different disciplines to address unique challenges and expectations in their fields. Participants developed individual professional development plans outlining their research agendas, publication targets, capacity-building needs, and strategies for achieving excellence in university-level teaching, research, and service. The workshop also facilitated formation of research clusters and mentoring relationships between experienced researchers and early-career academics.
Outcomes included significantly enhanced understanding of university academic expectations and standards, improved research skills and methodological competencies, increased confidence in pursuing publication in quality journals, strengthened networking and collaboration among faculty members, development of clear professional growth pathways, and enhanced institutional readiness for excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The training has contributed to a noticeable increase in research output, grant applications, and collaborative research projects at the University.
