Pre-Service Teachers Complete Structured Internship Across Plateau State

Following successful completion of the MCPD program, T_CEIPEC deployed certified pre-service teachers to nursery and primary schools across Mangu and Pankshin Local Government Areas for a month-long structured internship. This experiential learning phase transformed theoretical knowledge into practical teaching competencies through guided classroom practice.

The internship program strategically placed student teachers in diverse school settings including urban and rural schools, well-resourced and resource-constrained environments, mono-grade and multi-grade classrooms, and schools with varying student populations. This diversity ensured that interns developed adaptability and could apply their skills across different educational contexts. Each intern was assigned to a cooperating teacher who provided daily mentorship, modeled effective teaching practices, and offered constructive feedback on lesson delivery.

T_CEIPEC coordinators, along with university-based supervisors, conducted regular supervisory visits to observe interns’ teaching performance, review lesson plans, assess classroom management, and provide professional guidance. Interns maintained detailed log books documenting daily activities, lesson plans, reflections on teaching experiences, challenges encountered, and strategies employed to address them. These log books, combined with supervisor reports, provided comprehensive evidence of professional growth throughout the internship period.

The impact of this structured internship was evident in participants’ improved confidence in classroom delivery, enhanced ability to manage diverse learner needs, strengthened professional conduct and ethics, refined lesson planning and assessment skills, and increased capacity to create engaging, learner-centered environments. Host schools reported positive impacts on students, with many requesting continued partnerships with T_CEIPEC for future internship placements.
