Grantsmanship Workshop Strengthens Research Capacity

Recognizing that sustainable institutional development requires robust research funding capacity, T_CEIPEC organized an intensive six-day Capacity Building Workshop on Grantsmanship for its Management and Advisory Board members. The training took place at Hotel Samaritan in Jos, providing a focused environment away from daily operational demands to concentrate on developing competitive grant writing skills.

The workshop’s comprehensive curriculum covered the complete grant development cycle including identifying appropriate funding opportunities aligned with institutional priorities, understanding funder priorities and evaluation criteria, developing compelling research questions and objectives, conducting thorough literature reviews and needs assessments, designing rigorous research methodologies, creating realistic budgets with appropriate justifications, writing clear and persuasive narratives, understanding the grant review process, and developing strategies for successful proposal submission and project management.

Expert facilitators with proven track records in securing competitive research funding delivered interactive sessions combining theoretical frameworks with practical exercises. Participants worked individually and in teams to develop actual grant proposals based on T_CEIPEC’s strategic priorities and identified research needs in primary and early childhood education. Daily feedback sessions allowed participants to refine their proposals, incorporate reviewer perspectives, and strengthen their arguments.

As concrete deliverables, participants drafted and refined multiple research proposals which were subsequently submitted to relevant funding agencies including TETFund, international development organizations, and foundations supporting educational research. This hands-on approach ensured immediate practical application of learned skills. The workshop has significantly enhanced T_CEIPEC’s capacity to attract competitive grants, position the Centre as a leader in innovative educational research, foster strategic collaborations with funding partners, and contribute to evidence-based educational policy development in Nigeria.
