Centre Launches Comprehensive Short Course Program for In-Service Teachers
Following the successful standardization of curriculum modules, T_CEIPEC launched its flagship short course program designed to address critical gaps in 21st-century teaching competencies. The Centre received 150 applications from motivated in-service teachers across Plateau State, demonstrating the high demand for quality professional development. Through a competitive selection process, 50 teachers were admitted to participate in this transformative training experience.
The program offered six specialized courses covering essential domains of modern primary and early childhood education:
- 21st Century Skills as Innovative Teaching Strategy in Primary and Early Childhood Education
- Pedagogical Mentoring in Teacher Education
- Values Reorientation in Primary and Early Childhood Education
- Innovative Approaches to STEM Teaching in Primary and Early Childhood Education
- Innovative Teaching Strategy for Numeracy in Primary and Early Childhood Education
- Innovative Implementation of ICT Safety in Primary and Early Childhood Education
The month-long program adopted a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face workshops with online engagement activities. This methodology ensured that participants received both intensive hands-on training and opportunities for reflection and practice in their own classroom contexts. Interactive sessions included microteaching demonstrations, collaborative lesson planning, peer review activities, and case study analyses drawn from real Nigerian classroom challenges.
A significant outcome of the training was the establishment of an online community of practice, where participating teachers continued to share experiences, resources, and innovations beyond the formal training period. This sustainable professional learning network has fostered ongoing collaboration and mutual support, multiplying the program’s impact across Plateau State’s educational landscape.
